The Battle of Bzura 1939

It was 73rd anniversary of Bura Battle in 2012. My grandfather fought in that battle as the artillery man in the 15th light artillery regiment of 15th Infantry Division of Army Pomorze (Polish Army).

Here are some photos taken during The Bzura Battle reconstruction held in Sochaczew 09/2012.

  1. Wow very nice photos, I guess both our grandfathers fought on opposing sides. But they both fought for their country.

    • Hi, thanks for your feedback. Yes of course, our grandfathers fought for their country – the only thing that matters. Do u remember which unit/army your granddad was fighting in?

      • depends on which one you’re talking about

my canadian Granddad fought in the navy near the end of WW2

My australian Granddad fought in the Australian Light Horsemen in WW1

You could read about the Aussie Light Horsemen here: http://www.badassoftheweek.com/lighthorse.html

        quite an inspiring story really.

I know our grandfathers never directly fought each other nor likely at the same time.

Question: your grandfather still alive? he tell you any stories about his time in the army?

  2. So they all fought on the Allies side – mine as well. My grandfather passed away in 2009 in the age of 93 but he told me many stories concerning WW II not only his time in the army. After being taken as the POW and released he experienced both German occupation and Red Army liberation. He was lucky many many times…
My grand grand fathers fought in WW1 but all of them in different armies…Prussian, Russian, Austro-Hungarian and after 1918 in the Polish Army against Red Army. Thanks for the link. Take care!

    • Opps I misunderstood, I saw the Gemans in the photos and thought that was your grandfather’s unit. My mistake, sorry bout that.

Wow your grandfather must have told you many fascinating stories. The one who fought in the 800 Australian Light Horsemen (my great grandfather, sorry for the typo in my ealier comments) died when my father was young so I don’t have any stories from him, my Canadian (again, great grandfather) is still alive but won’t talk much about his involvement. So I don’t have any stories on my side to tell or remember.
